Growing to more than 7 feet long, lancetfish are one of the largest deep-sea fishes, swimming to depths more than a mile below the sea surface. Lancetfish live mainly in tropical and subtropical waters but migrate as far north as subarctic areas like Alaska’s Bering Sea to feed. Lancet fish are elongated and slender, with a long, very tall dorsal fin and a large mouth that is equipped with formidable fanglike teeth. The fish grow to a large size, attaining a maximum length of about 1.8 m (6 feet).
